From the West Side...
to the World

At Evviva Montessori, we believe that even the youngest children are citizens of the world. Rooted in the vibrant diversity of Jersey City’s West Side, our school embraces the idea that education begins not only with academic learning, but with cultivating respect, curiosity, and understanding for the people and cultures that make up our global community.

Our city is one of the most diverse places in the world, and we see this diversity as a tremendous gift. Each child who enters our classrooms brings a unique family story, language, tradition, and perspective. At Evviva, we honor these differences and create an environment where children learn to celebrate diversity. Through daily experiences, children discover that while people may speak different languages, eat different foods, or celebrate different holidays, we all share a common humanity.

Inspired by Dr. Maria Montessori’s vision of education for peace, our approach extends far beyond the classroom walls. Montessori believed that children who develop an understanding of the world and their place within it are better prepared to create a more peaceful and compassionate future. We embrace this philosophy by introducing children to geography, culture, music, art, language, and traditions from around the globe in ways that are meaningful and developmentally appropriate.

From exploring maps and continents to celebrating international holidays and learning about the lives of children in other countries, our students begin to build global awareness from their earliest years. These experiences nurture empathy, spark curiosity, and encourage children to ask thoughtful questions about the world around them. Language and communication also play an important role in our global approach. Exposure to diverse languages, stories, and cultural experiences enriches children’s understanding and fosters an appreciation for the many ways people express themselves.

At the same time, we believe that global citizenship begins locally. Our connection to Jersey City’s West Side community is central to who we are. Children learn that caring for their neighbors, respecting their environment, and contributing positively to their community are important first steps toward becoming engaged members of the wider world.
