At Evviva Montessori, our commitment to Montessori education extends beyond the materials on our shelves or the arrangement of our classrooms. It is reflected in how we observe children, prepare their environment, support their independence, and continually examine and strengthen our own practice.

That is why we are proud to be a school member of the American Montessori Society (AMS), one of the leading organizations supporting Montessori education in the United States and around the world.

What Is the American Montessori Society?

Founded in 1960, the American Montessori Society is a professional organization dedicated to advancing high-quality Montessori education. Its community includes

Montessori educators, school leaders, teacher educators, adult learners, families, and schools throughout the United States and around the world.

For Evviva, membership means becoming part of this larger professional Montessori community while preserving the intimate, individualized early-childhood experience at the heart of our school.

What Does AMS Membership Mean for Evviva Families?

Our membership provides Evviva with access to professional resources, continuing education, school-leadership support, Montessori publications, and a broad network of Montessori educators.

These resources help us continually ask an important question: How can we serve children better?

A strong Montessori school combines fidelity to Dr. Maria Montessori's principles with careful observation, reflection, professional development, and an evolving understanding of child development.

AMS membership provides our educators and leadership with another avenue for that continued growth while connecting Evviva to the wider Montessori community.

Montessori for the Foundational Early Years

These years bring remarkable changes. Children develop increasingly sophisticated language, movement, coordination, concentration, social awareness, self-care skills, problem-solving abilities, and independence. Their curiosity expands rapidly as they begin asking not only what something is, but why and how the world around them works.

A Montessori environment is uniquely suited to this period.

For our youngest ambulatory children, the environment provides opportunities for purposeful movement, emerging language, practical life, sensory exploration, coordination, self-care, and increasing independence. Children are invited to participate meaningfully in their surroundings rather than being passive recipients of adult care.

As children move into the preschool years, approximately ages 3–5, the Montessori experience expands with them. Children encounter increasingly sophisticated work in Practical Life, Sensorial exploration, Language, Mathematics, Culture, Science, Art, Music, and Grace and Courtesy.

Rather than separating learning into disconnected subjects, Montessori allows children to discover relationships among ideas. A practical-life activity may strengthen the hand for future writing. Sensorial work may provide the concrete foundation for mathematical understanding. Conversations, stories, songs, classified language, and Sandpaper Letters contribute to a rich environment for emerging literacy.

The result is an educational continuum that respects both where a child is developmentally and where that child is naturally headed next.

Independence With Purpose

Across these early years, Montessori education asks us to view children as capable participants in their own lives. At Evviva, children are encouraged to make appropriate choices, care for their belongings, participate in caring for their classroom, prepare and serve food when developmentally appropriate, resolve social interactions with guidance, and gradually assume greater responsibility for themselves and their community.

The Montessori adult's role is equally important. Rather than constantly directing or entertaining the child, the educator observes carefully, prepares thoughtfully, models deliberately, introduces materials at developmentally appropriate moments, and knows when to step aside so the child can experience genuine mastery.

The familiar Montessori principle “Help me to do it myself” is therefore visible throughout the Evviva experience—from a young child learning to manage personal belongings to an older preschooler independently completing a complex sequence of work.

A Community That Grows With the Child

Extending our Montessori environment through the preschool years also allows children to benefit from one of the distinctive characteristics of Montessori education: learning within a community of different ages and developmental stages.

Younger children observe what lies ahead. Older children gain confidence, responsibility, and empathy as experienced members of their community. Children progress according to readiness rather than being expected to reach every milestone on precisely the same timetable.

This continuity matters.

When children are given time to know their environment, trust their educators, repeat meaningful work, and progressively take on greater challenges, school becomes more than a place they attend. It becomes a community in which they understand that they belong.

Part of Something Larger

There is something meaningful about growing a Montessori school while simultaneously participating in a Montessori community much larger than ourselves.

Through our membership in the American Montessori Society, Evviva has access to professional development, Montessori resources, school-leadership support, and opportunities to remain engaged with developments across the broader Montessori educational community.

It is also important to distinguish AMS membership from AMS accreditation. Accreditation is a separate and more extensive process involving self-study and evaluation against AMS standards. Our membership represents our participation in the AMS community and our commitment to continued professional growth.

We see that membership not as a finish line, but as part of a larger commitment to continuous improvement.

Growing With Intention

The name Evviva is an Italian expression of celebration—long live! It reflects our belief that childhood is not something to rush through. It is a period worthy of protection, respect, discovery, joy, and wonder.

Our membership in the American Montessori Society is one more way we are putting that philosophy into practice.

We want Evviva to be a place where families encounter Montessori education in its fullest sense: not simply as a collection of beautiful materials, but as a way of understanding and respecting the developing human being.

From a child's first confident steps into an independent classroom community through the increasingly complex discoveries of the preschool years, our purpose remains the same: to prepare an environment in which each child has the opportunity to flourish.

As Evviva grows, we intend to keep learning alongside the children entrusted to our care—strengthening our practice, supporting our educators, engaging our families, and remaining connected to the wider Montessori community.

Come to Evviva -- where childhood thrives.
